MDC Brooklyn: checking its current mail instructions

Updated 2026-09-20

Metropolitan Detention Center Brooklyn is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Its official facility page publishes contact information and inmate mailing instructions.

Use the inmate mail address

Use the address specifically designated for inmate correspondence, with the current recipient name and register number. Do not substitute the visiting address. Verify the information when preparing each batch.

Keep the packet simple

For this service, we use ordinary white paper and a white envelope, grayscale printing and no separate objects. Facility instructions and content review still apply; printing an image on paper does not guarantee acceptance.

Delivery to a building is not personal receipt

The facility handles its own screening and distribution. Our ordinary-postage service cannot show when an individual receives or reads the letter. It reports only actual preparation, mailing and return events available to us.
